Oh well.. back again...

well.. its been a while... as usual, same excuse.. was too busy to jot down a few words here... the funny thing about time is that we're always running out of it.. :S what to do... ??... above all i think my time management is horrible... and i'm kinda slow doing things too... :S

Life right now is SOOOOOO boring for me... its the same cycle repeating over and over again.. my whole world is limited to the Uni, Work, Librarry and some occassional visits to the city to look for something... The worst part is that I don't have much time for gaming even... I'm trying to squeeze in COD4 in to that... but barely making it...

but things can get slightly better now, since its easter hols... thank god for that... :)

Oh BTW - I got myself a Wacom Intuos 3, A5 wide one... cost all that I had (yep i'm poor!!!) but its all worth it... :)

anyways... need to get back to do some stuff now... have some illustrations to do...

BreathLess

I hardly ever post anything about my work... as in the stuff that I do.

The last few weeks were horribly hectic.. was running around trying to finish off a couple of big assignments.

One of them was a styling project, we had a little less than three weeks to do the research, come up with a theme and do a photo shoot that could go in to a fashion mag... fun, but ALOT of work.. specially when I had no fucking clue to where to get the photographers/ studios etc.. So instead of going all "Professional" as I was supposed to I teamed up with another girl from my batch (as we were allowed to do it in tiny groups - to cover the expenses mainly) went to the 3rd year Photography students and got one of them, and used the uni Studios, which come at no cost...

So.. the Theme - which we called BreathLess; is to look back at the model(mannequin) herself... Its fascinating when I started to think of it actually.

"For a long time in history, ‘Mannequins’ or human made models/ dolls were used to demonstrate the arrangement of drapery and to display clothing.

The Parisian shop girl Marie Vernet Worth goes down in the history of fashion as the first “Professional Fashion Model/ Mannequin” when she was used to portray her designer husband Charles Frederick Worth’s clothes in 1853. Giving birth to a line of careers that never was before, which has grew and branched in to many careers very soon.

In their 1981 Pop Album, The Man-Machine, the German pop group Kraftwrek released their hit song “Das Model” where they sang, “She shows her body off for consumer goods”, is highlighting the ambiguous status of the fashion model at that time, whose own body has become an object in the course of modelling clothes.

But in their 1986 movie “Street crocodiles” (based on the novel by Bruno Schultz) the film makers ‘The brothers Quay’ portrays ‘Reversal’ of the above statement by Krafwrek. In the movie the tailor’s dummies come alive and take over his shop. They capture their former master and dismantle him like a doll the way he used to dismantle them. They measure him up, go through samples of fabric and trimming and sew an outfit to dress him up.

Later in late 1990’s Hussein Chalayan and Alexender Mc Queen portrays similar reversal by substituting dummies or mannequins for fashion models on a catwalk, and by exaggerating and playing on the ‘robotic’ qualities of a human model.

Today mannequins are used largely and widely in the commercial fashion retail industry as a medium to display the new ‘Looks’ and ‘trends’ in the fashion world. Real life like figures, skin colours and textures to simulate real skin, expensive wigs and with a brilliant combination of lighting sometimes the figures are so real-like you hardly can tell the difference.

One interesting aspect is that, it’s only the ‘look’ that changes everyday. The mannequin or the model remains the same as the seasons go passing by. As there masters use them as ‘tools’ to display the fashions of the season, they stare at the horizon with their fixed gaze, single expression on their rigid bodies... living a single moment... Forever..."

So what we did was to take the idea of the "reversal"; and turn the model in to a living breathing mannequin, stripping off the life and soul out of her, exaggerating the fact that today the model has become nothing more than an "object" than a human...(which i find sad as a human!!); and capturing her in one single moment...

we did a lot of running around everywhere... looking at stuff.. looking at the actual mannequins.. different outfits, looking at a million fashion publications just to see what we can do differently.. and within the theme too...

below are two of the pictures that we picked out of the shoot... the one on the left is the one that went in to the presentation; it went well with our theme... and the one on the right.. I just loved it...

choosing the outfit was kinda a nightmare... We wanted to illustrate the rigidness and the movement, the solidity and the softness, the lifelessness and the seductiveness at the same time... it was a nightmare!!! and we were told that the out fit should have elements of the current trends too... we picked up a pencil skirt, which is eternally in with the cooperate/ serious look but at the same time it really enhances the natural curves of a female too.. givin a slight sexy and seductive look. everywhere we looked.. at each window display we noticed frills!!! maybe its just birmingham but i don't know.. we say frills in different shape and forms.. and it struck to us as a nice way to give a flow to the rigidness... thus.. the big frill.. I liked it after it was all pinned up... :)
The shoes are not all that visible but.. the shoes were kinda nice too... open toe, gloss finished shoes with a about 6" heel.. she looked quite good standing on em.. the angle of the shot really doesn't show anything much of the shoe.. still it was an essential part of the outfit..

Lighting... too was another diffi part.. to make up the mind on lighting was not that easy.. but I kinda had a vision of a single light and a black background... and the model to fade in to black.. to enhace the death or lifelessness of the whole picture.. and well.. I wanted it to look a bit glamorous too... which i think we've managed to tackle in our own way... i saw natural backgrounds and white backgrounds in all other publications... and i just didn't want that...
the second light that u see on the pic on the right is not exactly a light.. only a reflector..

Make up was totally done by my partner in the project. it was quite simple and straight forward.. only detailed around the eyes.. which of coz is not that much visible in any of these two pics...

A little something for the new year....

Adam was walking around the Garden of Eden feeling very lonely, so God asked Adam, "What is wrong with you?" Adam said he didn't have anyone to talk to. God said he was going to give him a companion and she would be called "woman."

God said, "This person will cook for you and wash your clothes, she will always agree with every decision you make. She will bear your children and never ask you to get up in the middle of the night to take care of them. She will not nag you, and will always be the first to admit she was wrong when you've had a disagreement. She will never have a headache, and will freely give love and compassion whenever needed."

Adam asked God, "What will this woman cost?"

God said, "An arm and a leg."!!!!

Adam asked, "What can I get for just a rib?"

Another year......

Well.. here we are... 2008... just like that... he he he..

since Jan 2007, I'm still not over my ex, I've resigned from my job, I'm 8000 miles away ... leaving everyone I know and love... go settled in a totally strange land.. and well.. doing good too... :) but it was wild ride... specially the leaving my job part... it was not due to having to leave for my studies... it was because of a slutty lying bitch at work who thought that I was "problem" for her career!! and a stupid enough chairman who actually bought a story that made no sense... ya whatever.... heard the accusations on the first day.. and the next day i resigner.. it was totally pointless.. thankfully i had by back up plans already in motion.. so it was ok... I left the country after that...

the worst thing was... to leave my parents and my bro's and specially my friends.. whom i spend all my free time with... and all the other comforts.. the cool income and the car... which i cannot afford anymore.. and have to rely on public transport... [which is much better than sl.. but still... :( ] but it was good change...

weird the way how I celebrated though... Frankly I didn't celebrate at all... went to the local library.. and got myself a book that i always wanted to read.. that was about it... thinking of it... i think i can see a few reasons why I just stayed in...

first... I simply was not bothered...
second... the company... I had the coolest friends back in SL.. and i never met anyone who could even match that here... of coz they're totally different..but very nice friendly people.. but.. maybe for me it takes a while to make friends... anyways... if i had some cooler company.. it might have been different...
third... hate to admit it but financial.... :P yeah well... not easy to spend in multiplications of 220 u know.. :P

but unlike any of u.. I went to places that only u can go in ur imagination.. and frankly i totally lost track of time untill i hear the fireworks... he he he..

speaking of fireworks..

i heard that at London they spend 1 million pounds for new years ever fireworks display thing...
that would be about 200 million SL rupees... now THAT is wasting... just imagine what they could've done with that money... a half of it maybe... around the world.. how much needy people are there!!!

hmmm.. well... maybe thats something we all can think of in this new year.... again.. no one will actually bother even...

anyways ppl...

A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Hope all of u will have a good one... :D

Iced Earth - Framing Armargeddon - The Story of the Setians...

Iced earth's 9th studio album - Framing Armageddon (Something wicked Part 1) was released on September 11th... It took sometime to find its way to my hand.. and it took some more time for me to sit back and listen to it properly.. thus.. the delay in this article..

Either way... I was doing a bit of snooping around on the internet to see what other ppl had to say about the album... well.. they talk about Scheffar's amazing lyrics.. Tim "Ripper's" vocals... the brilliance of music etc etc... all the stuff that you'd hear about an album on a review... but no one seems to be telling what Schaffer is saying.. the story... So instead of talking about the music and lyrics.. I'll tell the story of the Setians... (of coz this is mentioned in Wki)

The story is set twelve thousands of years ago... on Earth....
Setians are Scheffar's fictional group of beings - direct descendants of the Creator (or God) who were full of knowledge, who called Earth home.
Humans... the greed and war hunger driven race... who were capable of space travelling... attacks earth and the Setians to claim their Unlimited knowledge.

This of coz is foreseen by the Elder (Possibly the high priest of Setians)... who conjures the master plan to secure their knowledge and keep it safe from the humans.
The second track.. "Something Wicked Part 1" kick starts the album introducing this... The Vision of the elder and the prophecy of the saviour... and the Master plan... "Framing Armageddon" for the humans... a twelve thousand year plan.... They choose Ten thousand Setians, one for each year... and thirteen including the high priest to council the chosen. They meet in secret and go in to hiding in the mountains...

Then comes the "Invasion" - The human invasion of Earth... If you listen closely the first 30 seconds of the 60 second track possibly represents the peaceful Setian life... and then starts the sounds of the battle... the gun fires the blasts... the invasion on earth by humans...

The "Motivation of man" is clear.... to obtain unlimited power and knowledge and take over the universe and its galaxy's...
They "Massacre Setians".... burning down temples and cities... What the humans didn't know is that the Chosen are hiding in the Eastern mountains... They've lost their loved ones and their land.. but hope remains if the chosen can survive and put the plan in motion... they overcome the lamenting... finding courage and strength.. a view of the current situation from a Setian's point of view is given in "A charge to keep" and the high priests view and in "Reflections"

Setian's grand plan for humans...
they will brainwash the humans... the humans won't know where they come from... and cloud their minds... and divide the humans by filling their minds with differences... Prophets, Saviors and Priests... religions like Christianity, Judaism, Muslims etc... creating dividing among humans...
"Then thousand strong".. (possibly the most powerful track of the album.. of coz we've heard it on the Overture EP...) introduces the master plan... and then comes its "Execution"...
The Setian's ("Order of the Rose") slowly take over the humans.. hiding among them... and "Contriving human decline Instilling those who lead Seizing opportunities" in Schaffer's own words...
"Catacalysm" possibly symbolises the humans falling in to their plan... being brain washed and instilled with new thoughts and ideas...
Setians succeed... "The clouding" is the the brain washed human's point view, Schaffer paints an agonizing picture of pain and empitiness...
Setians carry on with their plot... "Infiltrating and Assimilating" the human mind... creating a "Retribution through ages"... when thousands of years pass by... humans multiply and scattered throughout the world... taken over by their greed, fighting among themselves.. destroying and killing each other...

The next track... "Something wicked part two".. seems like an ironic name to give... coz.. for me it can mean either one of two things... the coming fate of the humans... or the foretold coming of the saviour... Part one - was when the humans came to earth.. hailing the destruction of the Setian's... and its funny how Schaffer decided to name this track Part two - hailing the destruction of humans... ( Its true... wickedness is wickedness no matter who does it or why its done!!!!)

Over years.. Humans go on dividing among thmselves.. just as the Setians planned... Dominated by the Setians... Falling like dominos... "The Domino decree" and "Framing Armageddon" takes us through this...

Continuing with the prophecy... After a millennium..... All the Setians hail the coming of the ONE... Set Abominae.... (from my knowledge he's in the over of Something wicked this way comes, The Overture, and in Framing Armageddon..) hailing the destruction of the man and reinstating the birthrights of the Setians on Earth... ("When stars collide (Born is he)")

This is where the massive 19 track album leaves us... the story will continue with Revelation Abomination (Something Wicked Part 2).

Which I am looking forward to....

In a nutshell... Framing Armageddon is a brilliant album... not only the musical value.. but its a brilliant way of story telling..... Schaffer and the gang has done it yet again...

Long Live IE.....

Adobe Illustrator's weired request......

I've been using Adobe Illustration for quite a while now... and been using a few versions too...

Today I got myself Illustrator CS3 and happily set to install it... first of all it wanted me to close firefox and then Yahoo messenger... well.. ok.. I'll do what he wants to... I closed them two... and restarted the set up....
Then another screen... the set up cannot continue because i'm not running at 1024X720 resolution!!! I have a 17" widescreen TFT, and I use 1280X720...

and this is the first time since maybe 1998 when 800X600 was kinda high resolution that I had a set up error because I'm running a higher resolution!!!! How weird is that???

did anyone else have that problem????

with my ass on a nice comfy chair.... ;-)

I was not in for sometime... was out on some uni work.... i took a bit too long come back.. and kinda ironic time too...

Interesting reply from Mr. Annon for my previous post... Specially the the second comment "(b) ...sitting on your arse in a comfy chair in a place that is not a warzone..."
Yeah probably I'm not in a warzone!!! My father was raised in Kantale... not very far from Trincomalee. We used to own paddy fields in there that provided us with rice that contributed for our financial part in life... we still have some relations over at Kantale... My father was the AGA for Trincomalee in around 85-86 when the terrorist problems. (he was the only man who had the balls to go there and serve the ppl... all other pussy's refused to go!!!!
Once the LTTE came in to his official quarters.. and we had to see them pointing a gun to his chest!!!! well.. we were lucky enough not to loose our father... they only took our vehicle...
of coz he was the provider of the family and if something happens... no one will be there for us.. not the ppl whom he dearly wanted to serve.. not the government who wanted him there.. not the rest the ppl in the country.. it'll be only us who would have suffered... we had countless sleepless nights not knowing whether our father will come back or not.. and when we were in kandy... there were countless times where our house was swarmed with relatives who came in seek of refuge... i have lost cousins to bombs and stuff.. innocent chaps... most of em farmers...

even today he's serving in the east... after retirement he went there coz there were not ppl to work for those areas... if u remember the secretary who was shot in his office in trinco right after the thoppigala attacks.... that was one of our old family friends and my fathers colleagues... my returned to his quarters when his friend was shot... if was my parents who took the responsibility of bringing the body back to kandy... there was no reason to kill him.... they were only trying to scare the government... and you should've heard what some of the Tamils who came to the funeral said.. they were in tears because a man who helped them had been killed for no reason...
I have my bro who serves in the army... we dont' approve of it... but he must have his own reasons.... whom we'll never know if will come back home the next time... he escaped death for about three times now... but...

Anyways.. all that is isolated incidents and ppl...

still... looking at a bigger pic... no one can say that anyone's ass is on a comfortable chair anymore... just take today's incedents... everyday for three years i used to pass through nugegoda junction walking towards kohuwala to work... everyday..... today... 17 school children are dead... for what??? do they call that an attack... no one can say that the person who left home in the morning will return!!! so its not only the people in the "war zone" buddy....
right now... they've turned the whole country in to warzone...!!! so.... **** ***

all this for what????? a land that no one is gonna take when they die??? a land that people used to live for generations... a land that they never owned!!!!!
whatever who says... there is only one thing happening... innocent people and dying and the country is going to hell... its sad...

btw - i read somewhere that they were celebrating Prabhakaran's birthday... well.. if that is the case... we can clear say that they've celebrated it with a "Blast"!!!!!

No one should die like that.... no one.. for any reason....

Channel 4's Unreported World...

I was switching channels and stumbled upon a program on Channel 4 a while ago (probably started at 7.00 or 7.30 PM - 9-9.07)

Initially it looked like a documentary of the current situation in SL... a lady reporter was in some remote area in SL, talking to a father about some killings of some innocent people done by the LTTE. it was quite brief and they showed some photographs... then they turned to the abductions in Colombo. I didn't quite catch the person whom she met next (my jack ass neighbor started bugging me again!!!) but he was saying something like that it was the government who were responsible... according to him... the vehicles that abducts the people aren't being stopped at the check points and stuff.. I don't know about the truth in this... but i'd love to be on one of those coz we all know that its simply not possible to go around colombo without being stopped at least twice... anyways.... then they tried to go to Jaffna... Apparently they've got permission to be in jaffna for four days!!! but as soon as they landed at Palali... they were asked to return within a day due to security reasons... and according to them they were under constant serviellance by the SL military... Later on.. they were taken on a two hour tour around Jaffna the next day... and then were sent back.. apparently they spent about 24hrs there...

now... what they've tried to discuss in the documentary was more or less the disappearances killings and the abductions of "people" in Jaffna and colombo... and they really did point the finger at the government... They directly accuse that the military did stopped them from going around Jaffna to stop them from finding out about the abductions... and the interview with the SL military was also not that good... damn he looked pissed off.. and he gave very vague answeres and he did say something like... when there is a conflict going on there will be incidents like this... or something like that.. i'm not sure what he said.. must be some truth in there too.. but they way they made it all sound like was not that good... it made Sri Lanka and Sinhalese look like some devils or Monsters... its a pity that they never do an unbiased story.... everyone suffers of war... everyone has lost someone or always at risk of loosing someone... due to this wretched war.... and specially from people in a country that has poked their hands in to a war that has nothing to do with them.... i just don't get it... anyways... i love my country and don't wanna see people exploiting it this way.... but media is such... it really sucks!!!! No one really helps.. they just try to put barrels of gasoline to the burning fires..... and try to talk about humanity....

I found this link on a blog.... and its on Tamil net too...

you would've been celebrating today.....

only i know how much my life is empty without you..... do you remember what my ex used to say???
"well.. there is someone thing that anyone who is in love with will have to cope with... that'll be you... I've often felt that I'm the second important thing whenever you're in the picture".....
he he.. well later on she understood that the love and specialty that I have for you was different to what I have for her... she equally liked you... I know that...
It was the comfort and the understanding that you gave me... I always felt warm and safe around you...
I remember when appachchi (sinhalese word for father) used to call you up and complain about me.... he knew that you were the one whom could convey anything to me.... in a very constructive way... none knew me like you knew me... i guess it was easier coz we were two of a kind... and we shared alot in common... and you saw through me and inside out... you were THE person akks.... and I miss soo sooo sooooooo much.... there ain't a day nor a special moment that i won't miss you... i always always wish that things were different.... i wish that you didn't have to go... Its your guidance that i'm still following akki... and .... you would've been happy for me today.... I miss being loved and to love someone to such an extent that other people don't even understand....

If things were different... you would've get a bunch of flower, a big card and a ton of love from me.... but its not... its life... you loose people... thats a part of the bitter truth... I'd wish you a happy birthday.... but I know that it won't be make much sense to you now... But wish you all the best where ever you are... you deserve that... and I wish you long life... and may you never come to pass away in such a horrible untimely death.... I love you darling sis.... and I miss you so so sooooooooooooooo much.... may you be happy and peaceful where ever you are....

and here's to you akki.... i know this song ALWAYS brought a smile to your face... and often made your day.....

Not a day passed me by
When I don’t think about you
and there’s no moving on
cause I know you’re the one
and I can’t be without you.......

Can we bring yesterday
Back around
Cause I know how I feel
About you now
I was dumb I was wrong
I let you down
But I know how I feel
about you now..................

suppose that says what i still feel (but I believe i knew how i felt all along.. ) I wish her another brilliant year in her life..... :-)

Darkness.....

The dark gloomy skies with no spec of light…

Leaves me wondering…

Has the sun given up on this world???

Leaving it to drench in the unforgiving darkness…

Where is the light that used to accost me every morning??

I clearly remember how it used to shine…

When I looked out side and felt the warmth…

The warmth that brought a smile to my face…

My visions blurred…

The misty veil makes me partly blind…

Nothing but smears and distorted figures…

Where am I???

The screaming silence…

What happened to the melodious sounds that gave life to the mornings???

I want cry out loud…

But no sound comes out…

What has gone wrong?

Has some unholy terror has unleashed its legions in to the world?

Spreading the poisonous gloom and misery??

What is killing the sweet mornings??

I closed my eyes trying to shut myself… Disconnect from the enclosing gloom…

Hoping that I can feel more alive…

Hoping that I can feel how I used to feel every morning…

Then it dawned to me…

Its not the world..... The gloom is inside…

Things that irritates me these days.....

I'm a patient man... well.. I've taught myself to become patient... once upon a time I was not this patient... and I was quite famous for that too.... but in time I've matured and I taught myself to be patient, practiced and put a lot of effort and built my tolerance to bull shit (above normal limits I should add)...

but the truth is that I do get pissed off... just that I don't react like I used to... or the people involved don't see how much I'm pissed off to be more precise...

and there are these other smaller facts that irritates you... You don't get F***ing pissed off... but still annoys and irritates you... I'm constantly getting irritated by a few things these days... here are a few... in a random order..

Kids with loud music on buses...
mostly teenagers with mobile phones... They really are under the impression that everyone wants to listen to their stupid music... I always have my own music with me... I've been carrying my own mobile music player for the passed 6-7 years... from the old Walkmans, to disc man to mp3 (disk) players to my iPod (current) and I listen to kinda hard stuff... here... with Dimmu Borgir beating up my ears i still can hear some idiots music on their mobiles... the audio quality is nil and its an irritation to the ear!!!!

Chewing gum on public places...
Specially in buses... you step on chewing gum... you accidentally touch some bloody hell... its so annoying... why cant they just put it in to a bin or NOT stick it on the bus where ppl will come in to contact...

Teenagers screaming there heads off on the road...
as if someone is committing a massacre on the road!!! (girls) They bloody yell and scream at the top of their voice... just because they saw a friend or something... but its sooo irritating...

Butt heads who leaves bottles and empty cans in buses...
they roll around and I almost broke my neck while climbing down the stairs from the bus... stupid idiots...

Last but definitely not least
the stupid fart head who this this house with me...
its a Sri Lankan who has been here for sometime now.. about 55, single... not seeing anyone also... a stupid lonely miserable man... I rarely complain about people i have to put up with... but this man is pushing it... too far too wide...He makes stupid points and try to boss me around... and thats something that I really don't take very well.. Its not a position that anyone can take, takes a lot to earn that position... and he brings up stupid arguments and makes all sorts of comments; He just knows how to f***ing piss me off in a VERY bad way.... we've had a few head on collisions a few time s already and I really did tell him off... no wonder he's alone and drunk!!!! and I've complained to the land lord too... now things are kinda settled... but if i go missing again... thats because I'm in custody for murder... or I've relocated and need to fix everything from the scratch.... he he he..
